Witchcraft

This whimsical film shows the fall 2010 witchcraft range from Wildfox Couture. The inspiration behind the vampish collection is the "ever-seductive power of white magic". ASOS

Prints are a feature in this collection, included on t-shirts and in the setting, like above. The video has a mysterious feel with secret telling, throughout I am trying to uncover the story as the plot is not obvious, this draws me in and makes me want to know more!

Threads

Taken by William klein, he positioned himself on some Spanish steps with a telephoto lens. He wanted to capture lots of activity on a busy street without drawing attention to himself and also flatten perspective so that the figures would look as though they had been pasted onto a backdrop. He got two models to walk across a pedestrian crossing, doing double takes as they passed each other to reflect the fact they were wearing similar dresses. The idea of contrasting the dress stripes with the pedestrian crossing was a smart one – but could have looked contrived. The activity surrounding the models as they crossed the street adds reality to the situation.

I could portray a similar look by using a print and detailed backgrounds, for example; checked, leopard, zebra/stripes against fences, windows and window displays or bricks.

Sparkling Ones

The patchwork photograph gave me ideas of prints used on t-shirts or on posters that can be used in the setting. This picture has a feeling of something being stripped back, this can be incorporated into my photo shoot by uncovering a secret through surveillance.

The bottom two photos act on surprise, this can be an ending, the reveal of the secret.

The proprietor of a cafe at 10 Prince Street, where a coffee shop is today, was smoking a cigarette outside on the evening of Nov. 16, 1939, when an unknown gunman shot him dead. When Weegee arrived moments later, the body was still lying in the doorway, and the fire escapes of all the tenements on the block, which remain largely unchanged today, were crowded with gawkers. He captioned the photograph “Balcony Seats at a Murder.”
The use of black and white focuses on the story and creates a thought of; ooo whats happening there?

Hello JFK

This set of images illustrates when Kennedy learnt that Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba was assassinated in 1961.
These few shots show how few words can change peace into hysteria. The use of a motionless setting draws attention to the subject and the close up of the face draws me in to try and listen in on the conversation.

The Unseen Photographer

This photography reveals the world unaware and people caught with their guard down. The idea began with technology that allowed images to be taken secretly, from the nineteenth century cameras are hidden in walking sticks, shoes and inside jackets, to the present day when you can stand in one direction and a device can take a picture in another.

As the camera is hidden, the images are more natural of people in every day occurrences rather then explicit acts. The focus is created by a close up view of someone walking, its almost like they are in the way however this is not the case as they are the focus of this picture.

Witnessing Violence

These photographs show the human drive to witness and document violent events. The focus is brought to the faces as they show true emotion brought in the moment adding intensity to the photograph.

You know something tragic has happened by the slightly disturbed face of the woman in the car, as the picture is blurred i am unsure of what is happening and requires more attention and a closer look.
